“No! No God Please No! No!” (YouTube)
Don’t worry, not forever, just for 12 weeks...
“New Jersey native Jon Stewart is leaving the Daily Show for 2 months come this summer. Starting in June, Stewart will to direct his first feature film.” (News 12 New Jersey)
The Emmy Award winning Daily Show host and satirical comedian is trying his hand at filmmaking ...but there is nothing comedic about this film.
The film is based on the 2011 best-selling book “Then They Came For Me: A Family’s Story of Love, Captivity and Survival,” which tells the story of an Iranian-Canadian journalist who spent 118 days in an Iran prison for his coverage of the 2009 Iran presidential elections. (One World Publications)
The upcoming film Rosewater is almost completely a Jon Stewart production, along with directing the film, Stewart also wrote the screenplay, which means Stewart will be the rookie in the room for the first time in a long time.
“I am a television person who is accustomed to having a thought at 10 a.m. and having it out there at 6:30 p.m. and moving on, so this is a little scary, yes,” (NY Daily News)
The New York Times notes that Stewart’s decision to make a film about this particular story is not by chance.
“Mr. Bahari’s ordeal is familiar to “The Daily Show” fans — in fact, the comedy program played a role in it...
Shortly before his arrest, Mr. Bahari had particpated in a "Daily Show" sketch, conducted by one of the show’s correspondents, Jason Jones, who was pretending to be a spy. Mr. Bahari’s captors used the footage against him.” (The Daily Show)
But the most shocking and heartwarming thing about this story is Mr. Bahari finding the humor in it all...
“You were imprisoned in Iran...Yes, Because of you. I’m just kidding.” (The Daily Show)
Daily Show Correspondent John Oliver take Stewart’s place while during the summer months.
