‘Jack the Giant Slayer’ climbs to the top spot at box office
Tim-ber! That's the sound of the CGI-tastic "Jack the Giant Slayer" falling short of expectations. Last weekend's box office topper snagged $ 28 million in ticket sales, which doesn't put much of a dent in an estimated budget approaching $ 200 million. There's a lesson here somewhere about making a kid's movie based on a fairy tale — Jack and the Beanstalk — with enough flesh-hungry monsters and mortal beanstalk climbs to warrant a PG-13 rating.
