They are at the top of their game on home turf, selling out their arena tour in minutes after fans queued for up to 40 hours to get their hands on tickets.
But One Direction have taken their quest for super stardom global, and judging by the overwhelming reception they have received in Canada this week, they're off to a flying start.
Officials were forced to shut down the street outside the Toronto headquarters of Much Music when the band stopped by to make their first appearance on Canadian television.

Boys on tour: One Direction stopped by Much Music in Toronto yesterday for their first appearance on Canadian television
Taking the north by storm: Officials were forced to close down the street outside the studio as the band was overwhelmed by screaming fans
Screaming fans lined the streets behind barriers clutching posters for Harry, Niall, Liam, Zayn and Louis to sign but soon threatened to overwhelm security in scenes similar to those that followed the Beatles and more recently, Justin Bieber.
Niall tweeted yesterday: 'Omg , @muchmusic was crazzzzzyy, the maddest its been, sorry we couldn't stay longer, it was just soo crazy, thanks for having us!'
Charmer: Harry Styles took charge of the interview
Inside the studio the boys struggled to walk through the crowds of half squealing, half crying fans, and one even threw her bra up onstage, which a blushing Louis caught.
'That was loud, really loud,' Niall said.
Harry and Louis said that they tried Canadian favourite Poutine, chips with gravy and cheese, which they said they enjoyed.
Asked what they life was like before they found fame on X Factor, Louis said: 'I was still at school. My mum was still doing all my ironing and cooking all my food. Just a normal boy.'
The band are supporting US group Big Time Rush on their North American tour but are easily rivalling them in popularity and press attention.
As well as causing chaos during their Much Music appearance, the boys conducted interviews with press inside The Ballroom Bowling Bar, where they joked around with assembled fans who tracked them down at the venue.
One Direction each expressed their gratitude to fans back home in the UK when they were told how quickly their tour had sold out.
The tour, which kicks off in February 2013, includes seven shows at London's 02 Arena, plus four in Belfast and another four in Dublin.

Tight security: The boys were ushered out of the venue back to their hotel
Crowds queued for hours, with some making it over 40, just to get their hand on tickets for the groups tour.
Tents were pitched and fans clutched on duvets as they waited for tickets.
Niall tweeted: 'Very exciting news, you guys are absolutely incredible, the best fans in the world by a long shot.'
