The Oscars have come and gone, but one attention-grabber just can’t seem to shake the spotlight—Angelina Jolie’s right leg. Her leg went viral after Jolie went out on a limb and bared it onstage while presenting. E! News explains.
“The leg spread like wildfire across the web, and in just two days, has spawned a fake Twitter account, numerous Photoshop jokes, and, of course, a leg bombing meme of its own.”
The Twitter handle, Angie’s Right Leg, has attracted over 34,000 followers. Now others are putting their best foot forward in a phenomenon known as Jolie-ing. The hosts of Live! With Kelly demonstrate the move.
“So you gotta kick your leg out kinda far, you gotta twist your hip out…I’m going to throw my back out.”
The move was boosted when ‘The Descendants’ co-writer Jim Rash mimicked Jolie’s stance onstage as he collected an Oscar for Best Adapted screenplay. Rash tells The Hollywood Reporter he meant it as nothing more than a tribute.
JIM RASH: “I had just seen her pose and thought it was bold and fun. And you know what? We have exactly the same legs!”
But according to the Chicago Sun-Times, Jolie didn’t appreciate the gesture.
“’Who is that guy?’ a backstage source quoted her as snapping when she exited after presenting the original screenplay award. The source added: ‘She was still pretty steamed but seemed to calm down quickly.’”
While others mocked Jolie’s stance, the actress caught Bill O’Reilly’s eye for an entirely different reason. He speaks out on the O’Reilly Factor.
“Is it just me or is she looking mighty slim these days? Emaciated, even? I was kind of taken aback. Look at the arms on her.”
An opinion writer for The Boston Globe thinks all this hype just shows that the Oscars are losing their touch.
“I don’t remember who won the best screenplay awards at the Academy Awards on Sunday night. All I recall is Angelina Jolie’s leg…At this point, the Oscars are less about movies than about the opportunity to gawk at actresses and their clothes.”
Jolie has yet to comment on all the unexpected attention her pose generated.
