Kylie Minogue might be a national treasure to us Brits, but she's just as valued in her native Australia, too.

The pop icon was especially asked to be the creative ambassador for the Sydney New Year's Eve event, a role which she has thrown herself in to with gusto.

She's back in her home country preparing for Monday's spectacular show, but made time to share a photo of herself on Twitter, in which she looks as bright and breezy as the weather.

Kylie landed in Australia on Friday afternoon ready to meet the New Year's Eve bosses and to do a book signing of her latest tome, Kylie/Fashion.

Despite making a gruelling 24 hour flight from her from her London home, the On A Night Like This singer was in good spirits as she chatted to fans, and told local media how excited she was to be a part of Sydney's special end of 2012 spectacular.

She said: 'It's so exciting to be seeing signage in the streets. I keep telling anyone who'll listen: `Look! Look up there! I can't wait.'

The 44-year old was very hands-on with her Creative Ambassador role, and took great pleasure in explaining how and why she pushed for the fireworks event to have the theme of 'embrace'.

'I love the concept of embrace. It can mean so many different things, and I'm looking forward to embracing new possibilities for the next year,' she said.

The romantic chanteuse then added that first on her hugging list for 2013 is her boyfriend, Andrés Velencoso, and that her family would also be in attendance.

Kylie also tweeted an edible welcome she had received when she arrived back in Oz.

She posted a picture of Sydney Harbour Bridge made from chocolate, captioning it: 'Feels good to be home in #OZ.'

The fireworks display on Monday night sounds like it will be unmissible, with Kylie being honoured by a specially comissioned musical note shaped explosion.

The semiquaver will be one of 100,000 individual pyrotechnic creations, and will join new designs including a koala, octopus and hand images in the sky.
