Music for the 2013 film adaptation of “The Great Gatsby” might be getting some hip replacement. Sources report Jay-Z is lending his talents to the project.
The Bullitts posted this tweet on December 30, noting that they would be collaborating with Jigga to score the film.
But first “Can I Get A...” few more details on The Bullitts?
Well, the UK band features frontman/producer/musician Jeymes Samuel along with what’s been called a rotating cast of who’s who in Hollywood, including...
...Actors Idris Elba and Lucy Liu and hip hop artist Jay Electronica.
Several sources report a few hints about Jay-Z’s involvement in the film might’ve been dropped before Samuel’s tweet.
Huffington Post points to the fact that Jay-Z and Kanye’s “No Church in the Wild” was used for the trailer.
And then there was this MTV interview with actress Isla Fisher.
“On my first day, he had Jay-Z pumped up full and we did the entire scene with Jay-Z in our ear on full blast while acting...”
A writer for Collider said film director Baz Luhrmann’s use of Jay-Z’s song isn’t surprising “as Luhrmann has shown a propensity for populating his period films with modern music. He had no problem mixing Shakespeare with Radiohead in Romeo + Juliet and 1900s France with Madonna in Moulin Rouge!.”
A writer for Screen Crush warns fans of getting to giddy over an announcement of this magnitude. Jack White was originally slated to score Disney’s “The Lone Ranger” but was later dropped from the project.
Despite the rumors and announcement from The Bullitts, Jay-Z’s involvement hasn’t been officially confirmed. “The Great Gatsby” comes out in May of 2013.
