Chart Juice: Future & Keyshia Cole Hit Top 10 on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs
On R&B/Hip-Hop Songs this week, Future and Keyshia Cole claim their latest top 10 hits while Lil Wayne sets a record among rap acts.
Atlanta's own Future earns his third top 10 as "Turn On The Lights" shimmies up 11-8. It's the fourth single from his "Pluto" album, which also netted the No. 10 track "Magic."
His first top 10 came about as a featured artist on YC's "Racks" (No. 6), the song that helped popularize the term in pop culture. Wale's "Bag of Money" stand still at its peak of No. 2 for the third straight week, while Miguel climbs 7-3 with "Adorn." It's his fourth top five single and is the lead track from his upcoming sophomore album "Kaleidoscope Dream."
As for the rest of the top five: Usher's "Lemme See" (featuring Rick Ross) slips 3-4 while Meek Mill's "Amen" (featuring Drake) holds at No. 5.
Down at No. 10, Keyshia Cole's "Enough of No Love" rises 12-10 as the veteran returns to the region for the first time in three years. "Trust" was her last single to reach the tier, spending 10 nonconsecutive weeks in the region between Aug. 1 and Oct. 10, 2009.
A guest turn on Cole's latest top 10 carries Lil Wayne to the title of rapper with most top 10s in the history of the chart. Track is Weezy's 30th top 10, moving him past Ludacris, who slides into the runner-up slot with 29 upper tier hits. Lil Wayne's triumph could be a short-lived, as he's not that far ahead of the acts in second, third and fourth place. Jay-Z is third among rap acts with the most top 10s (with 27) while Drake is fourth (26).
YAY FOR TREY: Trey Songz debuts his fifth studio album, the aptly named "Chapter V," at No. 1 on R&B/Hip-Hop Albums with 135,000 sold according to Nielsen SoundScan. It's Songz's second No. 1, and second straight set to debut at the top spot.
His previous full-length album effort "Passion, Pain & Pleasure" bowed atop the list in 2010 with 240,000. Following that, Songz briefly charted for three weeks with the "Inevitable" EP (No. 23 debut and peak on Dec. 17, 2011).
The new album has netted two top 10 singles on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs ("Heart Attack" and "2 Reasons"), while recent debuts "Dive In" and "Hail Mary" are still building steam. "Dive" breaks into the top 20 this week (29-18) while "Hail" (featuring Young Jeezy and Lil Wayne) slips 77-94.
Songz's latest album takes the place of 2 Chainz's "Based on a T.R.U. Story," which falls 1-2 with 48,000 (down 67%).
Meanwhile, DJ Khaled debuts his sixth studio album "Kiss The Ring" at No. 3 on with 40,000. The collaborations set, which features just about every prominent rapper today from the most relevant squads (MMG, 1017 Bricksquad, G.O.O.D., YMCMB and Taylor Gang) has produced two hits on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. "Take It To The Head" (featuring Chris Brown, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne) peaked at No. 6 and "I Wish You Would" (featuring Kanye West and Rick Ross) hits a new peak this week, rising 46-44.
Rick Ross's "God Forgives, I Don't" falls two spots to No. 4 (28,000; down 36%) and the movie soundtrack to "Sparkle" slips two to No. 5 (14,000; down 11%).
