BETTE Midler has laughed off her Twitter ''feud'' with Lady Gaga after the veteran entertainer accused the Poker Face star of copying her mermaid in a wheelchair performance during a recent concert.
Gaga took the stage at a show in Australia in July wearing a mermaid tail while sitting in a wheelchair, but the move appeared to infuriate Midler, who logged onto her social networking blog to remind fans that she came up with the gimmick first - way back in 1980.
''I'm not sure Lady Gaga knows that I've performed my mermaid in a wheelchair for millions of people - and many of them are still alive... Dear Lady Gaga if you think a mermaid in a wheelchair seems familiar - it's because it is! "
"You can see it on YouTube 24/7 - with ME performing it... Dear Lady Gaga I've been doing singing mermaid in a wheelchair since 1980 - You can keep the meat dress and the firecracker tits - mermaid's mine,'' she tweeted.
Gaga insisted she had ''no idea'' Midler was the originator of the stunt, but the Hollywood star has since dismissed their war of words as a fun and harmless feud, and she's adamant there's no hard feelings.
''We had a feud, which I loved,'' Midler told US entertainment news show Extra.
''I'm not a good tweeter. I said a couple of things. I opened a can of worms.
"I wasn't irked at all! I thought it was hilarious. I was actually very flattered, and then we sort of put it to rest.''
Activists ask Lady Gaga to pose in lettuce dress
First, Lady Gaga wore a dress made of meat. Now, how about one made of lettuce?
Indian animal rights activists have asked pop star Lady Gaga to pose in a lettuce dress and embrace vegetarianism during her visit to India this weekend, where she will be part of the star-studded unveiling of the country's first Formula 1 race.
Lady Gaga, who famously wore a meat dress at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, will be performing at an invitation-only show in a five-star hotel in New Delhi after the race on Sunday.
In a letter to the singer's publicist, PETA India said it hoped she would honor India's reverence for animals by turning vegetarian for the duration of her visit and posing for photos in a lettuce gown to promote the importance of not eating meat.
"If she agrees, we'll make her a dress entirely of lettuce and held together by pins and threads. It will be a full length gown, and we'll make sure it looks sexy," said Sachin Bangera of PETA India.
The dress would be constructed leaf by leaf on the singer's body, taking some five to six hours.
"Someone will be on hand to spray the lettuce with water so that it doesn't wilt," Bangera added.
Earlier this year, in an interview with Indian chat show host Simi Garewal, Lady Gaga said she would like to soak up the local culture by taking an Indian cooking class.
Excitement has been bubbling all week about the country's first Formula 1 Grand Prix, which is seen as a symbol of India's growing global clout while also highlighting its enormous disparities in wealth.

The great dame of music Bette Midler has revealed that she "loved" provoking the Twitter "feud" she had in the middle of the year (11) with Lady Gaga, over the singers onstage tactics.
Midler accused Gaga of copying her mermaid in a wheelchair performance for her recent concert in Sydney in July (11).
Lady Gaga performed her hit track 'You and I' while donning a black mermaid tail and wheeling herself around in a wheelchair, a move that appeared to infuriate Midler who took to Twitter.com to vent her anger about the singers apparent plagiarism.
Midler wrote in the post, "I'm not sure Lady Gaga knows that I've performed my mermaid in a wheelchair for millions of people - and many of them are still alive... Dear Lady Gaga if you think a mermaid in a wheelchair seems familiar - it's because it is! You can see it on youtube 24/7 - with ME performing it... Dear Lady Gaga I've been doing singing mermaid in a wheelchair since 1980 - You can keep the meat dress and the firecracker t**s - mermaid's mine."
At the time Lady Gaga, shocked at the accusations, insisted that she had no idea that Midler was the originator of the stunt.
Bette has since come out and said that the "feud" was all good-natured fun on her part and that she was in fact more honoured then angry at the singer's use of her act.
Midler told U.S. entertainment news show Extra, "We had a feud, which I loved."
She went on to add, "I'm not a good tweeter. I said a couple of things. I opened a can of worms. I wasn't irked at all! I thought it was hilarious. I was actually very flattered, and then we sort of put it to rest."
