Adele denies rumors of throat cancer after canceling concerts

LONDON -- A representative for British singer Adele on Monday denied rumors that she has been diagnosed with throat cancer, Us Weekly reported.

The rumors sprung up on Twitter over the weekend after Adele announced the cancellation of all her remaining performances in 2011 and said she planned to have surgery to repair her vocal cords.

"Adele has throat cancer? Wow...she has my prayers," one Twitter user wrote Sunday.

"I can't believe Adele has cancer," another fan tweeted. "That's the saddest thing ever!"

"We would like to reiterate that Adele is to undergo surgery for a hemorrhaged vocal cord," the representative said Monday in a statement. "All reports regarding any other condition are 100 percent false."

Canceled shows include ten US dates in October which had already been canceled earlier in the month, plus six November shows in the UK.

The 23-year-old chart darling has battled issues with her voice and was forced to cancel a June US tour due to a severe bout of laryngitis.

She spent the summer recovering and tried to make a comeback in September but developed a respiratory and chest infection and had to bow out of several re-scheduled shows.

Adele's album "21" was released in January and is currently the bestselling album of 2011 in both the US and the UK.

Eddie's heart and sole challenge

FUNNYMAN Eddie Izzard is set to give Forest Gump a run for his money - as the comic puts his sole into another fundraising challenge.

The comic is planning to ditch his trainers and run BAREFOOT during an epic journey through Africa.

Despite risking serious injury, the 49-year-old hopes to run a similar distance to the 1,100 miles he did for Sport Relief two years ago.

The transvestite comic - who is about to tour Australia and New Zealand with his Stripped show - is sure to have a gruelling challenge on his hands as he jogs through blistering heat and uneven terrain.

He raised more than £200,000 for Sport Relief in 2009, by doing 43 marathons in 51 days around Britain.

Soon after he completed it, he was honoured with an award at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year before encouraging his fans to take up barefoot running.

It is believed Eddie came up with the idea for the fundraiser - thought to start early next year - last month after travelling to East Africa to film a Unicef documentary about children affected by famine.

But his spokeswoman Karon Maskill said: "There are no definite plans in place."
