Last Sunday, the moon passed between the sun and our planet, causing an awe-inspiring solar #eclipse. This special phenomenon was captured by thousands of people around the globe. 2. Billboard Music Awards

The annual Billboard Music Awards were held in Las Vegas last week. A variety of popular artists attended the event and performed live on stage at the awards show, Chris Brown included. 4. Cannes

The Cannes International Film Festival, held near the southern coast of! France, was in full swing this week. Celebrities and people working at magazines from all over the world flew over to the Côte d'Azur to attend the event, which is the world's most publicized and prestigious film festival. This pretty picture from #Cannes was posted to Twitter by People Magazine (@Peoplemag, over 3 million followers).

5. NATO Summit Protests

Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Chicago and other cities across the United States to demonstrate against war and austerity during the NATO Summit that took place this week. Last weekend, Bamboozle's "magical three-day oceanfront festival" took place at Asbury Park, N.J. 10. Best Dog Costume

This week started off with Mother's Day, with sons and daughters surprising Mom with gifts and visits, showering them with love. 2. Manchester City Football Fans

On May 13, British soccer club Manchester City (#MCFC) won its first English title since '68, with! Sergio Aguero scoring the winning point against the Queens Park Rangers. This picture, posted to Twitter by the football team's official Twitter account @MCFC (300.000+ followers), show's Manchester City's fans getting rowdy over the team's victory.

3. Throwback Thursday

7. Donna Summer

Last Thursday, 5-time Grammy-winning singer Donna Summer died at the age of 63. Thousands of Twitterers tweeted pictures dedicated to the Queen of Disco, and this one from French singer @MelleAlizee (50.000+ followers) was the most popular. The tweet read: "Last dance... #donnasummer #rip."

8. Steamy Cup in the Sky

9. Diablo 3

This week, Blizzard's long-awaited game release Diablo 3 finally hit the street. On May 14, thousands of people lined up to be the first to defeat the new digital monsters. However, right after the release, Blizzard experienced severe server issues, causing the Internet to go into a #Diablo3 rage, creating memes and tweeting madly. This Diablo variation on the Boromir meme was posted to Twitter by @JermzV.
