The 49-year-old actor wears just a fur coat and low slung trousers teamed with a headscarf and sunglasses in one of the shots - his chiselled stomach clear to see.

Tom is flanked by a moustachioed Alec Baldwin in the picture, with the latter looking eager to do anything he can to please his star.

Rock Of Ages, based on the hit Broadway and West End musical, follows the love story between wannabe rocker Drew Boley, played by Diego Boneta, and Julianne Hough's character Sherrie Christian who travels to Los Angeles to find fame in the city's famously sleazy Sunset Strip.

And after she is fired from her job as a waitress at the Bourbon Room rock club she is forced to start a career as a stripper. The film also charts the troubles the Bourbon Room, which is threatened with closure due to an angry morality group led by Catherine Zeta Jones.

However the club's owner, a hilarious Baldwin, comes up with a plan to save his venue - persuade superstar rockers Arsenal, fronted by Jaxx, to play their final gig there.

The movie, which also stars Russell Brand, sees Cruise belt out legendary rock tracks such as Bon Jovi's Dead Or Alive, with the actor admitting recently that it was his family's love of musicals which inspired him to take on the role.

He told W magazine recently: 'Kate loves musicals. She sings and dances, and we kind of went through the history of musicals together. And Suri loved Hairspray. With kids, you watch everything over and over; I watched Hairspray 15 times with Suri.

'I thought Adam Shankman did a great job directing the movie, so I arranged to meet him and said, "Where's our musical?" He came back and said, Rock of Ages. We went and saw it in L.A., and for me…I didn't know how to play the character like that. I had to find my own Stacee Jaxx.'

Rock of Ages is released across UK cinemas on Wednesday 13th June.
