She’s known for her “Bad Romance...” but what about bad blood with Islamist hardliners in Indonesia? Lady Gaga canceled her sold-out show in Indonesia after an extremist group made violent threats. KTVU has the story.
“Lady Gaga’s show in Indonesia won’t go on because of safety concerns. Conservative Muslims groups say the singer’s music and performances are too suggestive. Some say her shows should be forbidden under Islamic Law.”
The Islamic Defenders Front threatened to meet Gaga at the airport to ensure she wouldn’t enter the country. The Gaga controversy stems from her outlandish outfits and the lyrics to her songs. Jewish News One reports:
“The head of an Indonesian hardline Islamic group said that Gaga only wore panties and a bra while singing. And, the fact that she has said she’s the envoy of the devil’s child made her dangerous.”
Loyal Gaga fans, who call themselves “little monsters,” organized a flash mob to support Lady Gaga Sunday, the same day the Indonesian tour was officially cancelled. The Jakarta Post reports...
“Lady Gaga’s fans performed two 7-minute dance routines, set to a medley of Gaga's signature songs ... in front of dozens of mall visitors. All of the Gaga-wannabes wore eccentric outfits, using soda cans instead of hair rollers, cigarette-decorated glasses, wigs and chains.”
Fans around the world are speaking out about the cancellation. A writer for Jihad Watch notes Sharia states oriented toward the good, not freedom, as their highest value.
“...one wonders if proponents of such ideas would object to the intimidation and particularly to the death threats that ultimately led to the cancellation of Lady Gaga's Indonesian show."
A total of 52,000 tickets were sold since tickets sale opened on March 10. They will be refunded.
