Covering for a sick co-worker in the office can be difficult. But what if your under-the-weather colleague is the host of American Idol? Ryan Seacrest - clearly ill - didn’t take any chances and toughed out Wednesday’s show. But TMZ said, it came at a price.
TMZ reports Seacrest had a horrible stomach bug and he spent Tuesday night and Wednesday throwing up. He braved the stage but between the hugs and the handshakes, TMZ says Seacrest probably infected everyone sharing the spotlight with him.
Seacrest was so sick he was hooked up to IV fluids before hosting the two-hour long show. But Examiner points out, this guy takes his contractual duties very seriously – he hasn’t missed a show in eleven years.
E! Online said show producer Nigel Lythgoe was a possible replacement for Seacrest if he had called in sick. A contributor for Today.com said the biggest story of the night wasn’t the six finalists but instead, that Seacrest managed to stay upright the entire show. Though he stood his ground, the writer said…
“All the time in the world with the makeup folks couldn’t keep him from looking like death warmed over…His usual dapper look also took a hit in the form of a missing tie and a rumpled-looking dress shirt that wasn't even buttoned all the way up.”
And The Washington Post pointed out Seacrest didn’t make his usual, dizzying descent down the staircase. Instead, he just greeted the judges at the desk – and it says that way Seacrest had something to lean on, faint on or puke on. The weak Seacrest also spent most of his segments on stools.
And Zap2It reports backstage, managers had ice packs to keep his temperature down and fanned him with their notebooks. Skylar Laine told Zap 2 It she dedicated her Queen performance, “The Show Must Go On,” to the under-the-weather host.
"Ryan is a trooper, I'm serious. He was sick and he just gets on that stage and he does what he does best and he makes the show great."
But, Seacrest fans can rest assured. He tweeted after the show, “Feeling better now. Thx throat coat.”
