Dancer Darcey Bussell ‘too NICE for Strictly Come Dancing role’

We told you yesterday how ballerina Darcey Bussell was being brought in to replace judge Alesha Dixon and already she's been attacked as too dull and too NICE.

BBC bosses were desperate to bag Darcey after Simon Cowell poached Alesha for Britain's Got Talent. He agreed a £100,000 deal to persuade the dancer to quit her Sydney home for the series' four-month run from September.

But critics were soon Tweeting furiously and inundating our website with attacks on Darcey, who was a guest judge in 2009.

Penzz said: "No personality or bite. Not someone I'm going to tune in for." Shanc1978 added: "She lacked impact, no personality. Too nicey nice and I don't think we'll gain anything from her."

Jill Gray said: "What an awful choice", Imakesense said: "Not sure she will have enough personality to make an impact" and Melanie said: "She was awful last time".

But there was some support for the beleaguered dancer.

Gowoman said: "Finally! Someone who not only knows about dancing but is able to articulate herself as well," and PhilSh commented: "Well done, someone who actually knows what they are talking about. A very good replacement."

BBC1 boss Danny Cohen said: "Darcey has all the experience and credentials to deliver meaningful and insightful critiques. She's a huge fan of the show and a fantastic addition to the Strictly family."
