The word cancer still remains a spine chiller in an age when medical researchers are being done and modern medicines are being invented. A psychosis still exists in the society for this life threatening menace and the statement that circulates from people to people is that, 'Cancer has no answer!' Well, we do not know whether there is really any answer to this disease or nor, but some of our hot favorite celebrities have given this Satanic disease a thumbs down and are going hail and hearty even to this date! Let's find out who are there superheroes of the real world and give them standing ovation.
1. Cynthia Nixon
This brave lady embraced cancer with her breast, only to defeat it in the battle! Although breast cancer is a common occurrence among the fairer sex, especially in the menopausal phase, Cynthia Nixon remained unperturbed when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006. The actress showed great feet of valor by abiding by the doctors' advices seriously and taking regular doses of anti carcinogenic drugs. So, it is needless to say, cancer had to retreat! Now, she is fully fit and works as an exemplary ambassador of a New York based cancer charitable trust, named Susan G. Komen.
2. Diahann Carroll
This lady was even more confident that probably any other patient of the world that her cancer will definitely go away. Even the doctors believe that if you have the guts you can get over it. It seems that this inspired the television icon Diahann immensely. So, this breast cancer survivor not only remained sanguine that she will overcome the lethal menace, she thought of inspiring the other cancer patients as well. So, she invited a camera crew to take live footage of her breast cancer operation and telecast it on national television!
3. Scott Hamilton
This figure skater is next on our list of cancer victim celebrities, who had never allowed it to take over his high level of confidence. This is probably what is referred to as sportsman spirit! But this is extremely inspirational for us as well to remain confident and positive that we will never give up. He was detected with testicular cancer, which is a menace among men. But not only did he overcome the disease, now he goes about spreading awareness about cancer and raising fund for his own cancer awareness organization 'The Scott Hamilton CARES Initiative' .
4. Suzanne Somers
While we pass through nerve wrecking moments, this woman confidently announced in 2001 that she was detected with cancer and was undergoing treatments. We are amazed at her spirit! She was a breast cancer victim and was under careful observation of the top oncologists. This authoress had to undergo a lot of surgeries and chemo sessions after which she was able to wave a final goodbye to cancer. She is also a proponent of alternative medicines of cancer besides the traditional therapy.
5. Peggy Flemming
This sportswoman was also cast in the cruel clutches of cancer in 1998. But, luck was in the favor of this celebrity figure skater as she never felt nervous at all. So, with timely medication and surgery she was soon able to recover from her condition. Today, she is completely cured. Further, she has paired with her husband, Dr. Greg Jenkins to contribute a sum generated from the sales of their business of Victorie Rose vintage, a product of Fleming Jenkins Vineyard & Winery to the local California based cancer charities.
6. Lance Armstrong
Athlete Lance Armstrong is perhaps one of the most active cancer survivors who have never let it make him heartbroken. He had the conviction that he will definitely get cured and the result is right in front of our eyes. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1996. Just the next year he was declared fully fit and fine! It is nothing but his fighting back zeal that made this miracle! Now, he renders his support and council to cancer patients and their families through his own organization, Lance Armstrong Foundation.
7. Fran Drescher
Our most favorite nanny from the small screen, 'The Nanny' starer Fran Drescher was also a cancer victim. It was in the year 1992 when this ravishing diva was declared that she had uterine cancer. But, she was not a bit moved at this news and fetched a clean bill of bill post her successful surgery. Now, she renders advocacy for women's health and cancer awareness by means of Cancer Schmancer Movement, a charitable organization founded by her in 2000.
8. Sheryl Crow
Sheryl, the music room sensation also joins the long list of courageous celebrities who gave cancer thumbs down! This sensuous diva was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006, when she was residing in the horizon of her career. But the disease neither could deter her confidence not could cast a dark spell on her music career. Rather, her take on this was that, cancer made her re-evaluate life. The resultant was a baby adoption by Sheryl the following year!
9. Sharone Osbourne
The rocking lady is the wife of the hit rocker Ozzy Osbourne. Besides her stunning looks, her feat of valor needs hats off too. She was detected with colon cancer in the year 2002. But it took her only a year to get complete recovery from the menace! Now, she is all set to instill courage and confidence among the other cancer victims and their families. She has joined hands with Cedar-Sinai Hospital in Los Angles with her Sharone Osbourne Colon Cancer Program, in order to raise awareness against the disease and benefits of timely screening.
10. Nelson Mandela
It took roughly 365 days for this popular South African leader to recover from cancer completely. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in the year 2001, at a really matured age of 83. But age is just a number for him and confidence is his weapon. So, he was given a clean hit after 7 weeks of extensive radiation therapy. Now, he is 93 and running strong, without any sign of cancer!
