I actually thought that Jason Statham's SAFE was going to win the box office. The Summer Blockbusters are knocking on our door and a Statham movie should have killed. SAFE placed sixth on the box office chart and will silently pass into the night. The Hunger Games only dropped one spot to number 4. What comes as a slight surprise is that Titanic 3D has dropped out of the top 10 (now 15th).

So why did I put The Avengers in the box office header if Tim Story's Think Like a Man won? It's time for the Summer Movies to begin. Yes, I'm jumping the gun but we all know that The Avengers is going to sweep the box office this week. It already has over seas. It opened in 39 foreign territories and took $ 178.4 million. Box Office Mojo had this to report: "The Avengers had its top start in the United Kingdom ($ 24.7 million), though that only ranks 16th all-time there. In Australia, the movie's $ 19.7 million is the second-highest five-day opening ever, while its $ 15.9 million debut in Mexico is a new record. It also set records in Brazil ($ 11.3 million), Taiwan ($ 7.7 million), the Philippines ($ 6.5 million), Hong Kong ($ 4.6 million) and seven other smaller markets".

The summer officially begins at Midnight on May 4th with Joss Whedon's The Avengers. What we here at Mania long to see is The Avengers effect on the other Superhero movies. Namely the characters in the DC Universe. Will The Avengers get a Justice League movie finally made? Will Warner Brothers step up with Aquaman and Flash movies? We'll get our answer soon... but for now, AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!
