Daft Punk return after signing with Columbia

GOOD news for dance music fans – DAFT PUNK are back.

The French duo will release their first studio album in eight years this May after signing a new record deal.

Daft Punk – THOMAS BANGALTER and GUY-MANUEL de HOMEM-CHRISTO – have inked a contract with top label Columbia Records, home to KINGS OF LEON, ADELE, DAVID BOWIE and BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN.

The elusive duo – who are famous for performing live gigs behind robot masks – began work recording the studio album last year.

Their last major project before that was composing the tracks for the soundtrack of the 2010 movie Tron: Legacy.

Disco legend NILE RODGERS has worked on the new tracks with them, which is a good sign, and I hear label bosses at Columbia are confident the album will be huge.

The return also raises the prospect of Daft Punk live shows this summer.

They last played in the UK at Wireless festival in 2007.

It would be a massive coup for Glastonbury to book them this year.

But their price might be too much for farmer MICHAEL EAVIS.
