caught live opening night of little mixs uk tour at nottingham
THE ten blokes sitting among the 2,500-strong audience at LITTLE MIX's UK tour opening night last night must have felt like they made a wrong turn on the way to the local boozer.
The girlband's show is unashamedly directed at a young female audience catered for by the likes of JESSIE J – and they do it just as well, if not better.
A year after winning The X Factor and the girls have a sound and look that is slicker than girlbands who have been around for three times as long.
There are some cheesy moments – the show opens with Little Mix slogans such as "Just believe", "Be kind and interesting" and "Party like a wild one" played across a large screen.
But harmonies are tight on songs such as We Are Who We Are, Stereo Soldier, Turn Ya Face and Wings, although sometimes it's hard to hear above the shrieks from the fans.
As with any band with just one album, the girls do a series of covers. But they easily pull off the tunes, putting a new spin on NICKI MINAJ's Super Bass, No Scrubs by TLC and EN VOGUE's Don't Let Go (Love).
The big difference is the girls really look like they're enjoying themselves this time.
JESY NELSON has always appeared to be having a ball on stage – now, after an end to the fear of being voted out each week, and with slick choreography, her bandmates are all with her.
Only criticism is that they could already do with a bigger venue.
