Surprise, surprise, surprise. Actor Jim Nabors, most known for playing Gomer Pyle in "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Gomer Pyle, USMC," is a newlywed at age 82. Canada’s NTV has the story behind Nabors’ partner.
“His partner's name is Stan Cadwallader. They've been living in Honolulu. They met years ago when Stan was a firefighter in Honolulu”
Nabors married his partner of 38 years January 15th in Washington. The state legalized gay marriage in December. Nabors says he knew he was gay since childhood, but tells Hawaii News Now he doesn’t plan to be the face for the movement.
“I’m not a debater. Everybody has their own opinion about this. Actually I’m not an activist so I’ve never gotten involved in any of this.”
Nabors had his own TV show and a successful singing career in addition to acting. He had 28 albums, four of which were gold or platinum. WANE in Fort Wayne explains he had another golly gig.
"Nabors is best known for goofy marine Gomer Pyle, course here in Indiana he’s best known for singing “Back Home Again in Indiana,” before the Indy 500.”
Queerty.com notes though, no matter how old you are, when you hear the news, a question comes to mind.
“...you’re either stunned by the news Jim Nabors has come out, or you’re asking who Jim Nabors is.”
Nabors got married in the privacy of his hotel room with just a few friends as witness and the newlyweds went back to their Honolulu home after the wedding.
