The top 10 movies of 2012

In this article I'm going to take a look back to 2012 and look at some of my top 10 favorite films. This is no easy list to compile, but this is what I have found to be 2012's top 10 films.

On a side note, there are a few I have not seen and do not make the list — not because I don't find them entertaining films, but I just cannot see everything. These films include but are not limited to, "Argo," "Life of Pi," "The Master," "Brave," "The Lucky One," "Magic Mike" and "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2."

Also, I would like to note that I did not include "Zero Dark Thirty," because even though it was released in 2012, the nationwide release did not hit until 2013. The films that are chosen are in no particular order, and I tried to pick the best ones from each type of genre and subgenre.

1. "Django Unchained"

As I stated in the winter review, this is one of the most well-written movies to come out this year. It has everything you could ask for in a film and is extremely entertaining.

2. "Skyfall"

This is without a doubt one of the best films in the 007 franchise and one of the top films to be released this year. They have made several changes with the lack of Bond girl and setting up the newer cast key characters (Moneypenny, and Q).

3. "The Avengers"

This film was every geek's dream come true and was also enjoyable for everyday moviegoers. The best part of "The Avengers" is that it appeals to Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and Hulk fans.

Even putting that big of a cast together from all different spectrums of the Marvel Universe, it turned out to be one of the top superhero films of all time.

4. "Chronicle"

"Chronicle" was worthy of this list because of its originality. "Chronicle" has taken the idea of what exactly would happen if you give three teenagers superhero powers and unleashed them in Seattle. Also, it was one of the better films to utilize the hand! held camera filming style.

5. "The Hunger Games"

"The Hunger Games" overcame several obstacles, which included converting the book into film and keeping the film very true to the source material while leaving in all of the children-on-children violence. The film also well-casted the roles of Katniss, Haymitch, Gale and Peeta.

6. "Ted"

I was so excited to see Seth MacFarlane finally do something for the big screen. The concept alone of an irresponsible stoner teddy bear with Mark Wahlberg as his best friend is enough to hook anyone.

The film was funny from beginning to end, with the digital effects on Ted being top notch. Also adding in that "Ted" is the highest grossing R-rated comedy of all time.

7. "Cabin in the Woods"

There were so many disappointing horror films this year, so "Cabin in the Woods" was really a shining diamond compared to most.

Like "Chronicle," "Cabin in the Woods" has a completely original concept and fresh take on the way that horror movies are perceived, by taking the basic outline for every '80's horror and tearing it down, with the best twist ending to any movie this year.

8. "Les Miserables"

There isn't too much to say other than that "Les Miserables" is a well-done film in every aspect. Even those who are not fans of musicals cannot deny that "Les Miserables" is both moving and entertaining.

9. "Men In Black 3"

After waiting for 10 years, the men in black have returned again to save our universe. MIB3 delivered in every aspect! After the 10-year hiatus, the film picks back up as if nothing has changed. With an excellent script, and the idea of time travel and K's younger self (Josh Brolin), MIB3 is a must-see, and dare I say the best movie in the franchise?
10. "Silver Linings Playbook"

I am not normally a fan of most romance movies, but "Silver Linings Playbook" was a surprise hit. The chemistry between Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley ! Cooper wa! s superb.

What makes "Silver Linings Playbook" stand out so much is that it is a love story about how two damaged people find closure with each other. It also points out all of the flaws that people carry with them. "Silver Linings Playbook" is one of the best romantic movies of this decade.

Well, that about does it. I will say that this list was not easy and I hated having to choose between some of my favorite films of this year.

These were my top 10, but I would like to give honorable mentions to: "Dredd," "21 Jump Street," "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," "The Campaign," "The Amazing Spiderman," "Looper," "Flight," "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," "Lawless" and "End of Watch."
