X Factor 2012: Gary Barlow makes amends with Nicola Marie at judges' houses after branding her 'annoying' at first audition

Its safe to say Gary Barlow wasn't taken with wannabe singer Nicola Marie at her first audition on The X Factor:
So its no wonder the hopeful wasn't thrilled when she realised the Take That singer was in charge of her fate at judges' houses.
After arriving at Boughton House in Northamptonshire, the 35-year-old's face fell when she discovered he was mentoring the Over 28s.

Her lack of enthusiasm was noted by Gary, as he told his assistant Cheryl Cole he wasn't fond of her in the initial auditions.
He said: 'In her auditions I didn't like her act and told her...'
In her first audition, the Derby-native performed a dub-step version of Taylor Dayne's Tell It To My Heart.

While the other judges enjoyed it, Gary didn't, telling her: 'I'd find you annoying if you were in my category.'
So when she entered the garden to perform for him a judges' houses, she was understandably pessimistic about her chances.
When Cheryl asked how she was feeling, Nicola replied: 'Everything's that's bad I'm feeling right now.'

Aware of their bad start, Gary took Nicola aside and said: 'I feel like you've given up before you started. I'm judging you on your performance today. Put the past behind you.'
She went on to perform the Bee Gees' Tragedy, but the judges weren't too sure.

Meanwhile, Kye Sones, Melanie Masson, Brad Shackleton, Carolynne Poole and Christopher Maloney went on to perform in judges' houses.
Christopher was told to relax by Gary as he struggled with his nerves, saying: 'Celebrate today. This is your moment.'
Although Gary and Cheryl seemed impressed with his performance of Air Supply's All Out Of Love, they were concerned about his confidence.

The pair were also worried about Carolynne's confidence after she failed to progress past Judges' Houses in 2011.
After she sang Ronan Keating's When You Say Nothing At All, Gary said: 'She needs that confidence boost.'
Cheryl admitted she liked Brad Shackleton's 'husky' voice after he sang Europe's The Final Countdown, but wasn't sure 'if he would instantly connect with the public'.

The pair both loved Melanie Masson's audition with Daryl Hall's Every Time You Go Away, but were worried over how she would cope being away from her two children.
However, Gary admitted he was very 'excited' after Kye Sones after he sang Maroon 5's Payphone.
Meanwhile, over in Dubai, new judge Nicole Scherzinger was whittling down the Boys group with the help of R&B singer Ne-Yo.

Both Nicole and Ne-Yo were impressed with James McArthur, one of the bookies' favourites to win this year's show.
After his rendition of Adele's I Can't Make You Love Me, Nicole gushed: 'There's something in that voice.'
Next up was Nathan Fagan-Gayles, who took the brave decision to perform one of Ne-Yo's songs Monster.

Following the audition, Ne-Yo said: 'It's always weird when someone sings m song. It was like "look how cool I am?" It takes away from his voice.'
Adam Burridge's rendition of Rihanna's SOS was 'the best audition I've seen', according to Nicole.
However, they were unsure after Jake Quickenden's performance of Take That's Back For Good.

Ne-Yo said: 'His falsetto isn't as strong as it could be. I like the tone of his voice. It's soft, it's inviting.'

When they asked him what exactly he was wearing, he replied: 'I don't know... when in Dubai!'

Following his rendition of Rihanna's We Found Love, Nicole said: 'That's the best he's ever sounded. He's got this little sparkle about him.
Finally it was Jahmene Douglas, whose nerves threatened to overshadow his powerful vocals as she sang David Guetta feat Sia's Titanium.
Ne-Yo told him: 'Your nervous energy is going to make you or break you. You're here because you're talented.'

Meanwhile, over in St Lucia, it was up to Tulisa Contostavlos and rapper Tinie Tempah to whittle down six girls to three.
Jade Ellis, Amy Mottram, Leanne Robinson, Lucy Spraggan, Ella Henderson and Jade Collins all performed against the stunning backdrop of the Caribbean Sea.
Despite being a favourite in initial auditions, singer/songwriter Lucy, 20, struggled with Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You.

Tinie said: 'It's such a big song to sing.'
They were impressed with Essex teen Amy, 18, who sang Emeli Sande's Read All About It.
Tulisa noted: 'She's got so much soul for someone so young.'
Unsurprisingly, another favourite Ella, 16, put on another show-stopper as she sang Jason Mraz's I Won't Give Up.

Meanwhile, Louis Walsh had the tough choice of finding three groups and looked to former judge Sharon Osbourne for help in Las Vegas.
Two groups have been given a chance to re-join the competition after one of Rough Copy had a visa issue.
Trio Times Red returned, as did Triple J, but this time as Union J with added solo singer George Shelley.

Times Red performed a medley of Get It Started and Ain't No Sunshine and appeared to impress both Sharon and Louis.
However, Louis noted: 'There's a lot of work to be done.'
When three-piece Mitsotu came on to sing Outkast's Hey Ya!, Sharon joked: 'Sounds like something from a Chinese menu.'
Louis said: 'I like them, but I'm not sure who the lead singer is.'

MK1 - who were a trio before being told to drop third member Will in the first audition performed Just Good To Me.
Newly-formed Union J performed Call Me Maybe and seemed to impress, however Sharon noted: 'Some of them have picked up novice bad habits.'
Also performing were Duke with The Way You Make Me Feel, Poisonous Twin with Freak Like Me and GMD3 with Rascal Flatts' Bless The Broken Road.
The final 12 acts will be revealed in Sunday night's episode of The X Factor at 7:40pm on ITV1.
