TLC’s Stacy London is known for helping people build their self-esteem through fashion. But London revealed a shocker of her own this week. She too struggled with her own body-image in her early 20s.
People magazine reported the What Not to Wear host admitted to battling with anorexia and compulsive overeating. Going from 90 pounds to twice that size in just a year.
“Gaining weight is tough on everybody and I know that from first hand experience...”
Last year, London addressed issues about style and self-esteem on The Y, blaming the style industry for unrealistic body image stereotypes.
“The problem is that based on modern advertising that’s taken these ideas of sort of like genetic predisposition and the things that we find attractive in other human beings and taken them to an extreme...”
Her new book, The Truth About Style, outlines the emotional and physical struggles she faced with her own body. She also shares the stories of 8 women undergoing style “start-overs” that help them overcome emotional obstacles.
Some say, you wanna sell books, talk the truth. Hollywood Back Wash says good PR tactic.
“Her new book The Truth About Style was released the same week of the Lady Gaga eating disorder thing. And for that reason, Stacy and her peeps are focusing on her own personal struggle with ED’s over the years – that is fortuitously mentioned in her new book – to promote The Truth About Style.”
But the Twitter-debate rages on...
“Does everyone have one these days? … Awful way to get PR.”
“People Magazines Exclusive Interview With Stacy London About Her Struggle with Eating Disorders Is A MUST READ. So brave.”
“We applaud Stacy London Says honesty in her book..”
Truth About Style will hit bookshelves on Oct. 2.
