Penelope Cruz looks radiant in red as she is announced as the face of Campari's 2013 calendar

She's following in the footsteps of Milla Jovovich and Olga Kurylenko, and it seems that Penélope Cruz is doing a good job so far.

The 38-year-old actress has just been announced as the face of Campari's 2013 calendar which has seen her take part in a glamorous photo shoot led by fashion photographer Kristian Schuller.

The Spanish star's latest role makes her the 14th star to feature in the world renowned calendar.

Unlike last year's 'End of the world' theme, 2013 is clearly about being sexy and sophisticated, which Cruz emulates.

A series of images show the Vanilla Sky star spending time with Schuller on the set as they discuss exactly what they want to achieve with the suit.

Cruz is seen wearing no other colour but red as one image shows racks on expensive-looking dresses in different shades of the popular colour.

Another photo shows various pairs of matching shoes which Cruz will no doubt model in the upcoming calendar.

The shoot took place in a richly-decorated mansion that features gold mirrors, beautiful chandeliers and fringed sofas.

In one image, Cruz is seen clutching a glass of Campari and wearing a red low-cut ball gown that featured a netted skirt and bow detail on the right-hand shoulder.

Another one shows the actress sitting at a dressing table while a male make-up artist puts the finishing touches to another one of her looks.

This time Cruz is modelling a red off-the-shoulder dress and a matching fascinator while her dark hair is pulled up into a bun.

There are also various images of Cruz and Schuller talking with one another and looking through the images that he has taken.

The pair obviously hit it off while working together and got on well as Cruz is also seen laughing with him and holding onto his arm.

Speaking about the annual creation last year, Bob Kunze-Concewitz, CEO of Gruppo Campari said: 'Each year we create something new and unique for Campari lovers.'
