Joanna Page says she will be a great mum because of her dog Daisy
JOANNA PAGE reckons she's going to be a great mum – because she's had so much practice with her Jack Russell, Daisy.
The Gavin & Stacey star and husband James Thornton dream of filling their house with children.
She said: "We would love a family. We've just moved into a house in the country and we'd like to fill it with kids — and dogs.
"I'm like a mum 24/7 already because of Daisy. My life revolves around her. Before anyone becomes a parent they should get a dog.
"I can't go clubbing all night or drinking until 5am because she has to be let out and fed. And she can't be on her own too much.
"I love her and am very protective of her. So when I become a mum I'll probably be exactly the same with our children."
Jo, who played Stacey in the BBC sitcom, is clearly excited about having a family. But she claims she isn't preparing for the patter of tiny feet any time soon.
Brushing off the question, she said: "Not at the moment. I'll probably get another dog before I have a child."
Her actor husband James left Emmerdale in February after playing farmer John Barton for three years. Jo also revealed how the couple — who have been married for nearly nine years — are making the most of the opportunity to spend as much time together as possible.
She said: "James spent three years travelling to Leeds and back every week. Now he's back he is doing voiceovers but has turned a few things down because he doesn't want to leave me.
"He's really enjoying being home and having a rest, and I love it too. Just being able to watch box sets on the sofa together, play board games and have your tea together is amazing."
She went on: "We're very lucky that we've grown together rather than apart because we fell in love before Emmerdale or Gavin & Stacey. It still makes me laugh when James gets mobbed by girls.
"They say, 'Oh my God, it's John' and I'm like, 'I know. I was picking his pants off the bathroom floor this morning'.
"But then people say to him, 'It must be amazing being married to Jo Page' because they think I'm just like Stacey — constantly happy and bubbly.
"In real life I'm feistier than Stacey. I don't like being wrong, I don't like apologising and I'm likely to explode over anything. I'm very strong and direct.
"I'm bubbly too but I tend to be much quieter behind closed doors. James is quiet and very Northern in public but when we get home and I'm watching telly he won't shut up."
Jo is back on our screens playing mum Helen alongside Miranda star Tom Ellis in new Sky Living comedy Gates starting August 14.
The 34-year-old said: "Playing mums does feel quite nice. I'm old enough to be a mum but because I look so young I'm more used to playing the innocent.
"The kids we were acting with were so sweet. I was worried about how I was going to talk to them but it was far easier than I expected.
"A lot of the time they were more grown up than us."
