THE biggest musical talent from within the home nations united to mark the opening of London 2012 – and it was a belter of a show.

My fellow Scot Paolo Nutini got things off to a flyer with a typically energetic performance.

Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody watched from the side and said: "His voice is monumental. He's a sexy mofo too!"

Paolo's got some great festival tunes now. The likes of New Shoes, Pencil Full Of Lead and Jenny Don't Be Hasty created a great atmosphere.

Snow Patrol and Stereophonics – representing Northern Ireland and Wales – are big-night veterans now. They delivered huge anthems in style.
