Lady Gaga To Debut 'Marry The Night' Video Thursday

On Thursday, Lady Gaga will officially "Marry the Night." The singer announced on Twitter that she'll premiere her highly anticipated video for the song on E!

Directed by Mother Monster herself, it marks the first time she's ever directed a video completely on her own. Gaga previously directed clips in collaboration with her Haus or former creative director Laurieann Gibson.

Shot at various locations in New York City in October, including the Snug Harbor Cultural Center in Staten Island, Gaga weaves an autobiographical tale in the new clip. At another NYC location, Gaga was spotted rolling around on the roof of a car.

In a preview released earlier this month, a "Girl, Interrupted"-type story line was teased. In it, Gaga is rolled on a gurney through a mental ward. She goes on a long monologue about the nature of memory and art: "When I look back on my life, it's not that I don't want to see things exactly as they happened, it's just that I prefer to remember them in an artistic way."

In her Thanksgiving Day TV special last week, Gaga teased another part of the "Marry the Night" video. The clipreferences films like "Fame," with Gaga donning leggings and a tube top and practicing a dance routine at a studio.

During a trip to India, Gaga opened up a bit about shooting the clip and being a first-time director. "It has been a wonderful experience. I worked alongside director of photography Darius Khondji, who is an absolutely amazing DP, and I worked with Gideon Ponte, who is an incredible art director," she explained. "So I'm looking forward to sharing this autobiographical video with the world. I'm very excited. It's my favorite song on the album."

Lady Gaga is unlucky in love, thanks to her ‘effortless’ talent

Lady Gaga can buy her own diamond, thank you very much. (Stephen Lovekin - Getty Images) Lady Gaga shares her theory on why her past relationships have failed, theorizing in an interview with Vanity Fair that men are intimidated by her smarts and talent:

“Perhaps it’s a whose- [expletive]-is-bigger contest. If I go to the piano and write a quick song and play it back, they are angry with how fast and effortless it is. That’s who I am, and I don’t apologize for it.”

She goes on to say a man once told her she’d die alone “with all your money and hit records.” But did she lay down and die? Nope. It only fortified her “I’ll show you” attitude.

Gaga has been romantically linked to actor Taylor Kinney, a rumor perhaps proven by her occasional visits to Lancaster County, where the “Vampire Diaries” star was born and attended high school.” (Or maybe she just really likes hanging out in farm country grocery stores?)

While Mama Monster’s casual swearing in the Vanity Fair interview will most likely not have parents singing her praises, her insistence to stay true to herself and her talent is something to admire. A trait perhaps best summed up by this quote on how men try to win her back by asking her to get hitched:

“Sure, pop a ring on my finger and make it all better. I can buy myself [an expletive] ring.”

You go, girl.

Oh, Lady Gaga. I love you, but do you ever have an inner monologue?

Wrapping up her year of flirting with overexposure, Lady Gaga has given an interview to Vanity Fair, and instead of talking Born This Way and bullying, she decided to get personal in a different way and discuss her relationships, or lack thereof, with men.

She told the magazine, “I have this effect on people where it starts out good. Then, when I’m in these relationships with people who are also creative, or creative in their own way, what happens is the attraction is initially there and it’s all unicorns and rainbows. And then they hate me.”

Interestingly, in her recent Thanksgiving special, Gaga shared that in her very public life, the one thing that is off-limits is her personal relationships (She’s reportedly dating Vampire Diaries actor Taylor Kinney). I guess that decision didn’t extend to trash-talking exs.

“Perhaps it’s a whose-dick-is-bigger contest,” she explained. “If I go to the piano and write a quick song and play it back, they are angry with how fast and effortless it is. That’s who I am, and I don’t apologize for it.”

Pause real quick. I’ve solved the problem. Did she just refer to her process as ‘fast and effortless?’ I know why these guys get mad, and it has nothing to do with the creative shoes she wears to bed. It’s her lack of pah-pah-pah-poker face. It’s wonderful that she’s a confident woman, but let’s be real here: Going around talking about how naturally, amazingly gifted you are in comparison to your significant other would put a wrench in anyone’s relationship. Or maybe she just needs to date more talented guys?

From the woman who once said, “Some women choose to follow men, and some women choose to follow their dreams. If you’re wondering which way to go, remember that your career will never wake up and tell you that it doesn’t love you anymore,” all of this is nothing new. But it sure is a lot to take at once.

Then again, Gaga is nothing if not a consummate celebrity, and like everything else in her life, she brings the discussion back to her devoted Little Monsters. “When I fight with someone I’m in a relationship with, I think, What would my fans think if they knew this was happening?” she told Vanity Fair. “How would they feel about my work and about me as a female if they knew I was allowing this to go on? And then I get out.”

You shouldn’t stick around with anyone who doesn’t treat you well, famous or not — that’s a worthwhile message for all her young fans. At the very least, it’s a better sentiment, perhaps, than taking your clothes off so Tony Bennett can draw you nude (see the NSFW pic), which — surprise! — she also did for this issue of Vanity Fair.
