Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes 'to divorce'

The Hollywood superstars are said to be splitting after five years of marriage.

People Magazine today reported Katie's attorney Jonathan Wolfe as saying: "This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family.

"Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."

Katie, 33, and Tom, 49, have one daughter together, six-year-old Suri.

The couple got hitched in a lavish ceremony in Italy in November 2006.

Sparing no expense, they flew their families and famous mates to Odescalchi Castle just outside Rome.

Suri was born in April the same year.

The high-profile birth was surrounded by controversy amid rumours Katie was forced to give birth in silence in accordance with rules set by Tom's Scientology pals.

Tom was previously married to actresses Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman with whom he has two adopted children.

Katie, who has never been married before, rose to fame on US television series Dawson's Creek and has worked in big-budget movies such as Batman Begins.
