Muse's song Survival unveiled as official song of Olympics 2012

It's the biggest sporting event in the world.

And not British band Muse have found themselves honoured as their new single Survival has been named the official song of the Olympic Games.

The British trio's new track will be played when athletes enter the stadium, in the lead up to the medal ceremony and as the theme for all international TV coverage at this year's games, held in London, which start on July 27.

The song was unveiled last night in the UL on BBC Radio 1.

The band wrote on their website: 'We are very excited to announce that a Muse song, Survival, has been selected by the London Olympic committee to be the main official song for the London 2012 Olympic Games. '

Matt [Bellamy] wrote the song with the Olympics in mind. It's about total conviction and pure determination to win.'

'We are honoured that the Olympics have chosen our song to officially represent the London 2012 Olympic Games across the globe.'

Muse - completed by bassist Chris Wolstenholme and drummer Dominic Howard - and are set to release their sixth album, The 2nd Law, in September and recently released a video preview in which they showcased a dubstep influenced sound.

Fans had mixed reviews of the song and many took to Twitter to express their opinion.

Some slammed the song and one user posted: 'So not only was #survival #muse not a very good song but I've come away from it depressed and with less confidence. #thanksMatt.'

Another wrote: '#survival #muse I kinda feel empty mocking it because I knew it was gonna be rubbish going in. Maybe I'm bad person.'

But there were plenty of positive reactions with one post reading: ''Muse trending!! Best band ever they just made my day with #Survival.'

Another tweeted: 'The magic of muse is overpowering. Wait one minute while I attempt to recover… or survive… #survival.'

Muse frontman Matt has been enjoying a European jaunt with his fiancée Kate Hudson recently.

Last week the pair were spotted soaking up the sunshine in Greece.
