The winners and reviews are in: so how were Sunday night’s Oscars? In two words: predictable and disappointing. First-time host Seth MacFarlane made some offensive jokes, and got few laughs.
SETH: "This is the story of a man fighting to get back his woman, who's been subjected to unthinkable violence. Or as Chris Brown and Rihanna call it, a date movie.”
Bad reviews of MacFarlane abound -- he was dubbed unfunny, offensive and all over the place.
Though some argued - he’s not the worst ever. ...Remember James Franco and Anne Hathaway?
Well, guess that’s saying something. The show called itself the Oscars’ first-ever themed telecast -- themed around movie musicals.
Catherine Zeta-Jones performed her number from Chicago -- though some wondered if she was lip-syncing.
Jennifer Hudson was the real showstopper for Dreamgirls.
“You’re gonna love me....”
And somewhere, Beyonce is reminded she still does not have an Oscar. The show saw a lot of predicted winners -- Anne Hathaway for Best Supporting Actress, Daniel Day-Lewis for Best Actor and Jennifer Lawrence for Best Actress.
Though Christoph Waltz won Best Supporting Actor for ‘Django Unchained,’ beating Tommy Lee Jones and Robert De Niro in what’s being called the upset of the night.
And what was unpredictable? Some refreshing speeches and cute moments.
TIME says they gave the otherwise dud of a show some life.
VO: “Nominated in this category for Winter’s Bone...”
(Lawrence falls up stairs)
LAWRENCE: ‘You guys are just standing up because you feel bad that I feel and that’s really embarrassing but thank you.”
AFFLECK: “I want to thank my wife, who I don’t normally associate with Iran, but I want to thank you for working on our marriage for 10 Christmases. It’s work, but it’s the best kind of work, and there’s no one I’d rather work with!”
DANIEL DAY-LEWIS: “It’s a strange thing, because three years ago, before we decided to do a straight swap, I had actually been committed to play Margaret Thatcher, um...”
(laughs)
ANNE HATHAWAY: “It came true.”
(laughs)
“Oh.”
It did come true, Anne. It did. You know what else came true? Some major Internet memes.
Anne’s nipples, actually -- became the social media subject of the night.

And a controversial Tweet from the Onion about young nominee Quvenzhane Wallis has apparently been deleted, but you can check that out too.
Oh -- and into the morning, ‘Jaws’ was trending on Twitter. Wonder why?
“Gabrielle, I love you so much...” (Jaws music comes in)
“...thank you for inspiring me every day.”
Yep - losers were played off with the ‘Jaws’ music. All in all, a so-called James Bond tribute turned out to largely be just a poorly edited video, Barbra Streisand and Adele showed up and sang the damn things, and, yes, Argo won Best Picture. Now we can just wait for next year when, hopefully, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will host.
