It’s taken just one awards season to mold a new superstar, and bring an old one crashing down. Anne Hathaway won Best Supporting Actress at this year’s Oscars. Jennifer Lawrence nabbed Best Actress. And after a blitz of media interviews and a couple of acceptance speeches, the tide has turned.

Anne was once, literally, a princess to America. Adorable, innocent, quirky and funny. A fresh face with real talent.

But during the Oscars -- headlines read -- what’s with the hate?

So..what is with the hate? Well, to start things off -- here’s one interview -- Hath on the Tonight Show. It involved dancing.

Anne’s just tryin’ to get people to dance.

And it’s so awkward and painful and just dripping with look-how-sweet-I-am-could-I-try-any-harder.

UsWeekly explains...

“...she has...been criticized for what some believe is a false, cloying sense of earnestness in her awards show appearances.”

Nail. Head. Hittin’ it. And the desperation culminated with...

“It...it came true!”

What did?...What came true?

Us even reported that Anne practiced her Oscars speech to make herself more likable.

If that’s true -- that may just be the problem, Hathaway is trying way too hard. Now -- let’s do a celebrity PR 180, and check out the girl who isn’t trying all that hard at all. And who is now spawning headlines like...

“A star is born.”

Yes, new Best Actress winner Jennifer Lawrence is the new it girl. Why? Well, check out one of her late-night appearances -- she told ‘Conan’ she was incredibly starstruck to meet...John Stamos.

LAWRENCE: “I was a perverted guy. I was following him into rooms and staring at his ass.”
LAWRENCE: “I just kind of kept smiling and being like, ‘Dude. Jesse. Uncle Jesse.’”
(laughing)

Basically, Jennifer’s herself -- if she’s gonna dance on stage, it’s not going to be forced. She’s also relatable -- from her love for John Stamos to referencing the movie ‘The First Wives Club’ during her Golden Globes acceptance speech, she speaks to today’s 20-somethings....

... and as Jezebel puts it -- could be their best friend.

And she’s imperfect. Yes, she fell on the stairs at the Oscars. Something a Hathaway would never do. EW explains...

Lawrence has managed to strike a balance where she appears grateful for the support and opportunities, but also aware that some parts of her job are rather silly. Especially in 2013′s media landscape, where everyone is all-too-ready to write a hasty opinion, this mindset is more important than ever.”

Undoubtedly, these two women are both talented actresses, but a public image is more than half the battle. That is, if you care. Salon has some advice for Hathaway on how to save herself from the hate -- give it a big ol’ bear hug.

Perhaps Hathaway can embrace her haters, rather than trying to win them over with glossily amiable acceptance speeches...She could play a villain, making light of her persona. Or she could just wait for the attentions of the public to move to another target.”
Until then...we’ll just leave you with this. On loop.
