Tropical Storm Sandy had already done plenty, and then it changed the course of television Monday.

Both CBS and The CW replaced new episodes of shows like How I Met Your Mother and Gossip Girl with repeats -- and in ‘Hawaii Five-0’’s place -- a special on storm coverage.

Daytime shows like ‘The View,’ ‘The Chew’ and ‘Katie’ did not tape.

And The Daily Show and Colbert were down for the count, too.

But ‘Late Night’ host Jimmy Fallon had promised a show no matter what...

And that ‘no matter what’ turned out to be an audience-free event.

Yep, both NBC’s ‘Late Night’ and CBS’ ‘Late Show’ were sans audience members, having sent them home before taping during the day for safety reasons. CBS actually posted the ‘Late Show’ monologue that could have been online. Here it is.

“And now, the perfect storm -- David Letterman.”

“Here are the jokes if we’d had an audience.”

“I say, ‘well, so much for the drought.’”
“That would have been a funny opener.”

And Deadline says, maybe these audience-free tapings will make for unique, must-see TV.

Though in a sad coincidence, ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live,’ which normally tapes in Los Angeles, had been planning a week of shows in Brooklyn.

Kimmel wanted to head to his hometown for the first time in 10 years.

But Monday night’s broadcast was canceled.

Kimmel called the news disappointing, but Tuesday’s show is still scheduled to tape.
