The investigation into alleged sexual abuse charges against Jimmy Savile at the BBC took another twist Sunday. The BBC has the details.

“The former pop star, Gary Glitter, has been arrested on suspicion of sex offences by police investigating abuse claims against the former presenter, Jimmy Savile. “

According to an International Correspondent for CNN, Jimmy Savile worked very closely with Glitter and helped nurture his career. He explains with Glitter’s record it’s not all that surprising that he is now a part of the sex abuse investigation.

“He fell from grace very much in the 1990s when initially his computer...was found to have lots of indecent images of young children on them. He served four months in prison.”

And as The Telegraph points out: Glitter was also convicted in 2006 in Vietnam for ‘obscene acts’ with two girls aged 11 and 12. He returned to the UK in 2008 following his jail sentence.

According to The New York Times, police officials said that about 300 people came forward claiming Mr. Savile had assaulted them. Savile was known as a famous television host and for his charity work. His case regarding sexual abuse of children did not break until after his death last year.

Where does the BBC go from here? Chris Patten, the chairman of the BBC Trust, wrote a column for Sunday’s Daily Mail....

In the piece, Patten said the BBC’s “reputation is on the line,” and the organization “risks squandering the public’s trust” in the wake of the scandal.

Patten has apologized to the victims who have stepped forward, and says he and the BBC will do their best to sort out the scandal as quickly as possible.
