DJ Fresh: I really have a big problem with people that have massive egos
CHART-TOPPER DJ Fresh says that he has no time for people who have an ego - no matter how famous they are.
The drum and bass and dubstep hitmaker who has collaborated with big name acts including Rita Ora, Dizzee Rascal, Rizzle Kicks and Professor Green feels that if you have made it big in music it should make you more HUMBLE.
He also admitted he has only worked with acts who he gets along with on a personal level.
He said: "I find it very off-putting when I hear that people have got big egos. I think people that make music and are successful owe it to everybody else not the other way around.
"I really have a big problem with people that have massive egos, I just think it's so out of order to be honest. People like me should be really thankful for the position that we are in, not making a big deal out of it.
"Because of that the people I've met and got on with and wanted to work with are those kind of people. So everyone that i've worked with has been down to earth and cool."
He added: "I think I'm just in to people being nice and friendly. It's like 'oh I'm really good at making dubstep so I'm going to be moody?' Ok mate."
This weekend DJ Fresh - real name Daniel Stein - will be joined by over 30 other music acts to help motivate 18,500 runners at Nike+ event Run To The Beat.
The concept sees him headline a line-up that spans multiple stages situated over a half marathon, where fitness fanatics will get to listen to and watch live music as they take part.
Talking about the event he said: "I've been on quite a big health drive over the past year so it just sounded like the perfect thing to be involved in. It's funny because when you go to a a sports shop or look in a fitness catalogue you don't think of music as being an important part of it, but everybody listens to music when they work out.
"Because my music is all about being high energy, I get a lot of people tweet me saying 'I'm at the gym at the moment had to put on some DJ Fresh,' because obviously the music I make is perfect for that kind of thing."
He added how his drive to constantly improve yourself helped to inspire the concept of his album, Nextlevelism.
He said: "I have this ethos of self-improvement and being the best you can be, it sounds a bit cheesey when I say it out loud, but I'm really into pushing yourself, that's what Nextlevelism is about - pushing myself musically, and the concept of pushing yourself to do things that maybe you didn't really believe you could do.
"As long as you believe in yourself and push yourself you'll be surprised at the stuff you can achieve."
And he said that one of his favourite songs on the album is an example of that belief.
He added: "Forever More with The Fray and Professor Green is a stand out track for me - obviously Pro wrote his rap, I won't try and take credit for that - but it originally had another verse over his section and it was the first song that I wrote 100% on my own with no input from anybody else.
"To have actually written all the lyrics and everything - to finish a track and be that proud of it - that was a really special thing for me."
And Fresh — who is rumoured to be in the pipeline for a role in action comedy sequel Kick Ass 2 — joked that Daniel Craig has given him hope of one day scoring a role in James Bond.
He said: "I am a massive Daniel Craig fan and because I'm blonde it's great to see that it is possible to be blonde and be James Bond. I was really affected by that for years — I thought that the fact there had never been a blonde 007 meant there was something wrong with being blonde.
"Now that he's opened up the doors to the blonde male I feel like there's at least a chance I may sneak in there."
