This Feeling kicks off 2012 with a bang

With loads of the bigger bands on tour abroad, it was a chance to dig out some of the new acts breaking through.

At this month's This Feeling BORN BLONDE, JANICE GRAHAM BAND, SULK, THE GHOSTS and THE CARPELS were all on the bill.

And with them came hundreds of up-for-it guitar heads.

So it's a good job they didn't disappoint at The Queen of Hoxton in East London.

First up was London-based Born Blonde, who have been compared to THE VERVE and DOVES. It wasn't hard to see why with their swagger and anthems.

Manc magic ... Janice Graham Band

Manchester's Janice Graham Band caused an absolute riot. The frontman TOM ELLIS has as much confidence on stage as MARIO BALOTELLI has on the pitch.

Sulk dominated with a sound that reeked of STONE ROSES with frontman JON SUTCLIFFE strutting about like a young BOBBY GILLESPIE.

Completing the line-up were The Ghosts, who played a set of Hot Chip, and MGMT-style pop belters while Birmingham's The Carpels managed to pull off a punchy LIBERTINES-esque performance.

The tear-up hit home that guitar music is still very much alive.

This Feeling is flying the flag for it at full mast, fighting the cause for the best new bands.

Long may it continue.
