Matthew Broderick news: actor reprises Ferris Bueller role in teaser clip

The actor has sparked web rumours that he is to star in a follow-up to 1986 comedy classic Ferris Bueller's Day Off thanks to the ten-second scene.

Echoing the original, Matthew appears in a dressing gown and delivers a modern twist on a famous Ferris line as he draws open the curtains.

He asks: "How can I handle work on a day like this?"

The video ends with the US date 2.5.12, the day of the Super Bowl.

Despite whipping fans into a frenzy over the prospect of a sequel, it's thought Matthew simply filmed the clip to indicate he'll be staying at home to watch the American football spectacle.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off followed the mischievous antics of the titular character after he feigned illness and bunked off school.

Last year, Matthew – who starred in the film alongside Alan Ruck, Mia Sara and Jennifer Grey – downplayed the idea of making another movie as he paid tribute to the original's director John Hughes.

He said: "We thought about a sequel to Ferris Bueller, where he'd be in college or at his first job, and the same kind of things would happen again. But neither of us found a very exciting hook to that. The movie is about a singular time in your life.

"Ferris Bueller is about the week before you leave school, it's about the end of school - in some way, it doesn't have a sequel. It's a little moment and it's a lightning flash in your life."
