simon cowell has a chart of gold
SIMON COWELL is upping the ante in the battle for Christmas No1 – by making this year's X Factor winner's song a CHARITY record.
The top-secret plan would see the usual annual charity track performed by all the finalists scrapped in favour of a big push for the winner.
Several charities are in talks with Simon's record label team in the UK about coming on board.
TV Biz understands the idea is the only charity single being discussed for this year.
A source said: "We do a charity record every year but the current thinking is we should just make that the winner's single.
"It would make loads of cash for charity and it will bring festive cheer back to the Christmas No1.
"Obviously there are people who would like to give Simon a bloody nose. Well, this way all they'll be doing is starving a charity of cash if they campaign against it. Nothing has been decided for definite but everyone is very keen on the idea."
This year's X Factor winner's single will be released straight after the final on December 16.
There have already been several anti-Simon campaigns. In 2009 there was a push for people to download Rage Against The Machine's track Killing In The Name and it beat Joe McElderry to the No1 spot.
This year, a group called Band Crusade are trying to get music fans to send an unsigned band to the top of the charts.
They write on their website: "Fed up of being spoon-fed acts from glorified karaoke contests such as The X Factor and The Voice?
"We set out to find 100 raw, talented and undiscovered UK acts that we feel deserve a shot of being Christmas No1 for 2012."
