Yoko Ono has been blamed for The Beatles’ breakup eight days a week for more than 50 years. Now, in a soon-to-be-published interview with Al Jazeera, Sir Paul Mccartney admits John Lennon’s widow had nothing to do with it. Better late than never? Here’s KSDK:
“He says Yoko Ono did not break up the band. He says he was uncomfortable with her sitting in on studio sessions but John Lennon could not have written ‘Imagine’ without her. Paul McCartney says Allen Klein got them fighting with each other.”
Yoko Ono has become practically synonymous with destroying solid partnerships.
Fox: “I don’t see what the big deal is - YOU’RE BREAKING UP THE BAND YOKO!”
HBO: “All present? Coco
Cough, cough Yoko”
“Pulling a Yoko” is even an entry on Urban Dictionary.com
So what took so long? A writer for SPIN suggests Ono and McCartney’s rocky relationship might be to blame.
“For the band that once sang ‘All You Need Is Love,’ little love has been lost, either, between Ono and Lennon's longtime songwriting partner, Paul McCartney. Ono once reportedly compared Lennon to Mozart and Sir Paul to Mozart's less-talented rival, Salieri; in a 2005 media dust-up, McCartney said of Ono, ‘I don't think she's the brightest of buttons."
While the whole interview is scheduled to air in November, after being blamed for so long, many are wondering if Ono’s “band breaker” reputation will ever actually go away. A reporter for CTV says that’ll be the day.
“I mean, for years she was saddled with this ... it crystallized in essentially what has been viewed for fact for quite some time now. So for him to come out now and saying no it wasn't her it was somebody different, it will be interesting to see this new revelation will be adopted as fact.”
Here’s hoping Beatles fans and Yoko can finally work it out.
