Britain’s Got Talent news: Sam Kelly says cheating ex helped inspire his BGT audition
The talented 19-year-old — who wowed the BGT panel with his cover of Adele's Make You Feel My Love — told how he tapped into painful memories of his former girlfriend.
Sam told TV Biz: "I am currently single, my last girlfriend cheated on me. She is not a very nice person actually, so it is probably a good thing.
"It is quite a while ago but the keen sting of that still hasn't gone away."
After hearing Sam's emotional performance with his guitar, judge David Walliams told him: "I think when you tackle a song like that, it's not just your voice — it's the way you make us believe you've lived every line of that song. I was completely blown away."
Sam auditioned for the first ever series of the hit ITV show but failed to get through to the judges' stage.
He said he was just as nervous this time round after learning telly's Mr Nasty, Simon Cowell, was back on the panel.
Sam added: "It was great getting his opinion though and he seemed to really like it."
But even Simon is not as scary as some of the crowds Sam has played for in Brighton, where he is studying music.
The Norfolk-born singer, whose relatives are dairy farmers, said nothing was as frightening as performing his own songs in front of "five angry drunk men" at a pub gig.
Sam, who used to make butter for a living, had planned to perform one of his own tunes on Saturday's show but changed his mind at the last minute.
