When does a Miss Universe Canada contestant get the boot -- before ever strutting her stuff?
The Los Angeles Times has the skinny.
“As far as Miss Universe Canada is concerned, it seems the "Miss" part of the competition has to start at birth — particularly for ousted contestant Jenna Talackova, who was born male and who said she self-identified as female at age 4 and underwent gender reassignment surgery at 19.”
Born a boy.
Been a girl -- since Talackova was 19 years old.
That has created a conundrum.
Z6 News talks with a pageant official who says, it’s a clear rules violation.
“The are a set of rules, and one of them is, she has to be a naturally born female. In this case, she was not honest. She was dishonest about that.”
Buzz 60 says the rules were a little fuzzy for this pageant.
“Talackova has competed in pageants before and meets the qualification for this one by being a Canadian citizen, 18 to 27 years old.”
“Someone check the fine print for the little known, must never have been a male rule.”
The morning talk shows have been buzzing with reaction.
Here’s Australia Seven Network’s -- Sunrise on 7.
“The rules are the rules.
Ok, I think in this day and age I think it’s a bit harsh.
Could have a appealed it early.
Change the rules.
She’s got all the sort of equipment and stuff like that.”
Lots of folks seem to be supporting Talackova.
People magazine notes, a petition has been drafted to reinstate her.
“A change.org petition has netted 20,171 signatures in an effort to reverse the decision to disqualify Talackova from the the Donald Trump-owned pageant. Talackova is expected to release a statement this week after speaking with her lawyer.”
