Lindsay Lohan’s casting as Elizabeth Taylor in Lifetime’s “Liz & Dick” was controversial from the start.

The movie premiered Sunday and was intended as a comeback role for Lohan.

“You just ended your first marriage?”
  	“Oh, who’s counting?”

But reaction to the flick was less than favorable.

WHDH: “Critics say the film is boring and they say Lohan did not do a good job of depicting the actress.”

On Twitter especially, the critics were harsh.

One user tweeted, “TERRIBLE movie. I could have swallowed a whole bottle of White Diamonds and better channeled Liz.”

And another viewer writing, “its like Paris Hilton playing Marilyn Monroe”

Professional critics were no kinder — with The New York Times’ Alessandra Stanley calling it “laughable” — and Hollywood Reporter’s Tim Goodman declaring it “spectacularly bad.”

But the star herself was positive on Twitter, telling one fan:

“2 get 2 feel like 1 of the most amazing women in the world was a thrill all around & wearing the jewels wasn't bad!”
