Top Celebrity Fan for Each NFL Team in the AFC: A Fan's View
Celebrities love the NFL just as much as your 'Average Joe.'
Over the years, dozens of music, television and film stars have been spotted in the stands on NFL gamedays, cheering on their favorite teams along with the common, everyday fans.
Here's a look at the top celebrity fan for each team in the NFL's AFC Conference:
1) New England Patriots, Matt Damon: Damon, a critically-acclaimed actor, is widely known as a major supporter of the Boston-area sports franchises. In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Damon said he was impressed with the way Tom Brady responded to adversity by bouncing back quickly from a preseason injury.
2) Baltimore Ravens, Michael Phelps: Phelps, an award-winning Olympic swimmer, was extremely excited about a custom Ravens jersey he received from the team.
"I was so pumped," he said. "My sister threw it down to me. I just remember after I got my medal I walked back to the ready room where we were sitting, and everyone said, 'Let me see, let me see.' and I held up the jersey. They're like, 'No, no, the medal.' I was like, 'Well, I'm excited about the jersey.'"
3) Houston Texans, Hilary Duff: Duff, a 24-year-old Houston native, sang at several Texans' home games in the 2009-2010 season.
4) Denver Broncos, Kyle Busch: Busch, a NASCAR driver, said in a YouTube video that his favorite team is the Broncos because he grew up watching them compete. He added that he had the opportunity to schmooze with the legendary former Broncos quarterback John Elway.
5) Pittsburgh Steelers, Hank Williams Jr.: Hank Williams Jr. is a southern rocker who used to appear regularly on the opening of Monday Night Football broadcasts. He is well-known for his love of the Steelers.
6) Cincinnati Bengals, Nick Lachey: Lachey, a world-renowned actor and songwriter, said in an ESPN interview that he has been a Bengals fan for the better part of 30 years.
7) Tennessee Titans, Faith Hill: Hill, a county music superstar, sang the national anthem in the opening preseason game of the 1999 season, to welcome the Titans into their new home of LP Field, then called Adelphia Coliseum.
8) New York Jets, Adam Sandler: Sandler loves the Jets so much that he casted New York football coach Rex Ryan for a role in one of his upcoming films.
9) San Diego Chargers, Phil Mickelson: Mickelson, an American golfer, said in an ESPN interview that he has rooted for the Chargers since he was a kid, and would like to someday have an ownership interest in the team.
10) Oakland Raiders, Slayer: Slayer guitarist Kerry King is a huge Raiders fan, and the band is often seen rocking Oakland football jerseys while they perform in concert.
11) Kansas City Chiefs, Paul Rudd: Rudd, a critically-acclaimed actor, grew up in Kansas City and is widely regarded as the top celebrity fan of both the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs.
12) Miami Dolphins, Serena Williams: Williams, a worldwide tennis sensation, isn't just a celebrity Dolphins fan. She also bought an ownership stake in the team in 2009 to become the first female African-American to be a part-owner of a professional franchise. Her sister, Venus, joined her in the venture.
13) Buffalo Bills, Eddie Van Halen: In 2012, Van Halen performed in Buffalo with its original lineup for the first time in 28 years. In the past, Eddie Van Halen has been spotted playing golf with former Bills quarterback Jim Kelly.
14) Cleveland Browns, Drew Carey: Carey is Cleveland's top celebrity sports fan almost across the board. He is often spotted at Cleveland Indians games, and is never at a loss for words when discussing the Browns.
15) Indianapolis Colts, Rob Lowe: Lowe caused a stir on Twitter in January by claiming that he had good reason to believe Peyton Manning was retiring. David Letterman is also a huge Colts fan.
16) Jacksonville Jaguars, Gene Hackman: The celebrity Jaguars fans are few and far between, but Hackman regularly attends their games in Florida.
