CHARLIE Sheen admits last year was 'cringeable' and he doesn't 'recognise' himself

The 46-year-old actor appeared on US TV chat show Today with Matt Lauer and revealed he doesn't "recognise parts" of himself or the man behind the meltdown.

Battling with alcohol and drug addiction in 2011, he was sacked from his hit TV show Two And A Half Men after verbally abusing the creator Chuck Lorre.

But the now-reformed Charlie has said sorry to the world for his actions and wants to move on with his life.

Comparing his erratic behaviour to having an out-of-body experience, he explained how the whole ordeal felt surreal.

He said on the show: "I didn't recognise parts of who that guy was. I just wish it was somebody else's body.

"You say it's been a year - it's either been a day, or a hundred years.

"I guess the plan was to reintroduce myself to America and to the media and say, 'Sorry about that, but here's what's happening now.'"

And he even admitted that he wasn't that happy that Ashton Kutcher had jumped in his grave and was now starring in Two And A Half Men.

When asked if he was bitter about Ashton taking over his starring role, he joked he could use it for material in his own new show Anger Management.

He said: "A little bit. I gotta work through that. I could probably do it in a group on my show. Just not out loud."

But he certainly doesn't want to be remembered just for his meltdown.

"I couldn't have the Two And A Half Men thing be my television legacy. I couldn't have that end on that note.

"If this is going to be a swansong, then it's got to be a beautiful experience, and, so far, eight days there was more fun than eight years."

He said of his drug and drink abuse: "It was a team effort that was ultimately led by myself. There were not a lot of people close by saying, 'Dude, let's just take a step back.'"
